Both are real wood. Which one fits your home depends on your subfloor and on Vancouver's wetter, more humid climate.

Maple offers a cleaner, more uniform grain, and hickory is the hardest domestic wood, which holds up well in active households. We bring sample boards to your home so you see the actual stain on the actual wood in your own light, not a swatch under showroom lighting.
Professional installation and refinishing
We install nail-down, glue-down, and floating hardwood depending on what your subfloor allows, and every job starts with moisture testing - important in a climate where subfloor moisture is a real concern most of the year. Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions
Most whole-home installs take a few days from removal to final finish. Bill measures the job in person up front, so the estimate reflects your actual home, not a rough guess.
Engineered hardwood works well in kitchens and below-grade basements - the plywood core stays stable when humidity shifts. We generally don't recommend solid hardwood in either location.
A quality solid hardwood floor can last 80-100 years and be refinished several times along the way. Engineered hardwood typically lasts 30-50 years and can usually be refinished once or twice.
We bring sample boards in your wood species and color so we can match within a shade or two. If you want a seamless blend, we can refinish your existing hardwood at the same time so the whole floor reads as one.
