Yes. We remove the carpet, padding, staples, and tack strip first, then check the treads underneath. Solid treads get a quick level and the vinyl goes on top; damaged or particleboard treads get replaced before we install.
Not when installed properly. We re-secure every tread and add construction adhesive before the plank goes on, which usually makes the staircase quieter than it was before, not louder.
With a matching nosing - either a factory piece from the manufacturer or one we mill in-house from the same plank. We don't finish a staircase with a generic aluminum strip.
