The first day is demo and prep - we remove existing carpet, treads, or old flooring, then shim any loose stringers so the new staircase doesn't squeak. Treads, risers, and nosings go in next using construction adhesive and finish nails, with no visible fasteners. The last step is finishing: stain if you want it, several coats of low-VOC polyurethane, and a final detail pass. Yes. We remove the carpet, padding, staples, and tack strip, then inspect the underlying treads. If they're solid, we install on top; if they're damaged, we replace them as part of the job.
A standard staircase installation typically takes a few days end to end - demo, install, and finishing. You can use the stairs the following morning, with full cure in about a week.
That's the goal on most jobs. We bring stain samples to your home, brush them onto a piece of the same wood species, and let you pick before we order. You see the actual color on the actual wood, not a brochure swatch.
